J O H N, LBRM PART II
As of this year, the Long Beach Rescue Mission claims that roughly 40% of the people that they serve are struggling with a substance abuse issue. Although the intensity of these issues varies, each person who enters the doors of the Rescue Mission is in search of a way to defeat their addiction. John is one of these people.
John was addicted to methamphetamine for 10 years and has been free of the habit for nearly 9 months. His addiction led him to homelessness and to lose contact with his family. After being discovered "tweaking" at a park in Long Beach, John told us that he surrendered and was done. He was completely tired of the life he was living and was ready to begin a new and healthier journey.
We met John as he was nearing the end of his time at the Long Beach Rescue Mission. Listen below as he tells us his story:
Our producer, Alessandro, sets up our recording equipment as John patiently awaits the beginning of his interview.
